Newport Update: Master Bedroom

Happy Saturday everybody!  As promised I am posting some pictures of the Newport master bedroom.  This room is pretty much finished, just some finishing touches that will need to be done.  The ceiling/ third floor isn't attached yet, so once that is done I will have to put up the molding.   I'm sure I will add more minis to this room over time as well. :o)

 

 

 

I really love how this room turned out!  It just feels cozy to me.  The inspiration for this room came from the chair and ottoman.  I had this custom made for me by Kris Compas.  Kris does the most wonderful work!  I have several of her pieces now and hope to add more to my collection in the future.  

 

The floors came pre-stained, but I added a wash of black paint to darken them up just a bit. 

 



The nighstands are just an odd pair that I picked up on E-bay a long time ago (see photo below).   I painted them black and added new knobs which I stained to match the top of the posts on the bed. 

 

 

 



I scratch built the bed using matte board and scrap bass wood.  The bedding was also sewn from fabric that I already had on hand.  The rug is a paper print out, but someday I would like to learn punch needle and then attempt to re-do this design. 

 



I purchased the lamps online, but I can't remember the name of the site.  I will add a link in here when I find that info.  I really love the bases on these, but the shades are just really flimsy plastic.  I tried adding fabric to make them look better for now, but eventually I will replace them with something more realistic looking. 

 





The armoire is a Bespaq piece that I have had in my stash for a while.  Another Ebay find.  I usually just buy things I like, not knowing where I will use it.  It's fun to go through things every now and then and find stuff I forgot I had. ;o)  On the other side of that though, I've been looking through my stash and asked myself  "What the heck were you thinking when you bought that?"  LOL!

 



I really love the window seat!  I scratch built this as well, using matte board and bass wood again.  I always pick up more when I'm at Hobby Lobby so that I have it on hand when I need it.  The printed pillows/blue pillows are from a kit by true2scale.  The rest of them were hand made by me. 

 



The pitcher with flowers and the bird patterned boxes are also kits by true2scale.    The stack of books is by MontserratFolch on Etsy.  Unfortunately her shop is now gone, which is a shame because her books are wonderful and I was hoping to get more.   

 

It is kind of hard to see, but the photo on the nightstand is actually of my daughter and niece trying on funny glasses at the store, LOL.  It always makes me laugh, so I resized it and put it in the frame.   

And here is my usual perspective view.  ;o)  You can see that the ceiling isn't attached and the lamp wires are sticking out.  The wires will go through small holes in the ceiling, but I still haven't figured out how I am going to run the wires for the rest of the third floor.  I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.  



 

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you like the master bedroom.  Next up I think will be the sun room which is through the French doors off of this room.  I'm at a stand still right now though.  I have a picture in my mind of how I want the windows to look, but I can't find anything that looks even close to what I want.  That means I will have to make them myself and considering it is a sunroom, I'm going to need a lot of windows.  I want them to be working windows too (of course).  Good thing I'm always up for a challenge!  :o)

Just a couple of new minis

Hi There!

I just wanted to share a couple of new minis with you all tonight.  :o)  A while back I was reading Brae's blog and she had shared some things she purchased from Shapeways, so naturally I had to check it out, LOL!  I ended up getting the laundry basket and the little blue bins that I used in the Newport garage. 

The little laundry basket has wonderful detail to it!  I love it!

You can see the blue bins there on the workbench.  They worked out perfectly for holding little bits and pieces.

These items came from Marion Russek on the Shapeways website.  Shapeways is a 3-D printing marketplace and let me just say, it is amazing what can be done with 3-D printing!  Wow! 

I have spent so much time over on that website, LOL, not only looking at the miniatures, but they also have a great model train section and some of those items would be great in mini scenes as well.  They just have so much to offer!  After looking through it so much it actually gave me an idea for a little side project I want to work on while I try to figure out where to go with the Newport.  I think I will do this little project a bit differently and post my progress here on my blog as I go along.   I will call it my Shapeways project since that is where my inspiration and a lot of the minis will come from.  Now it's back over to their site to add to my wishlist  ;o)

Kitten Update

Hi everybody!  I hope you have had a great weekend!  I've been chasing little kitties around.  They are definitely getting around good now, even getting the hang of running after me wherever I go.  They are so cute though!  I've attached a few pictures so that you can all see how fast they are growing.  They  just turned four weeks old.

 

 

 

It was really hard to get a good picture of them all together until they were sleeping.  They prefer to sleep in the dog's bed, LOL!  The dog isn't too happy about it though.

 

 

So cute!

~ New Little Ones ~

Happy Friday everyone!

 

Today's post doesn't have anything to do with bears or minis, but I wanted to share anyway.  :o)

A while ago we took in a stray cat that ran out in front of my sisters truck.  My sister couldn't keep her, so of course she brought her to my house. (because I don't know how to say "no".)  So ,fast forward a couple of months and now I have kittens at my house.  They are about two weeks old now and sooooo cute!  I wish they would stay like this forever, but alas, they grow up. 

So anybody want a kitten when they are old enough to leave their mom?!....Please!.....Yes, I'm shamelessly begging here!  If you are close to Northern Indiana feel free to come get yourself a cute little kitty in about four weeks or so.  ;o) 

 

Ok, I'm done begging now, LOL!  If nothing else at least I've shared some cute pictures here.  :o)  I will try to post some updates as they grow.  Of course my daughter is on cloud nine right now, she is already attached to them.

~Newport Update: The Garage~

Good Morning!  I hope you all had a great weekend!

 

I would like to share some photos of the Newport garage with you today.  :o)  I will definitely be adding more to this room as time goes on, but for the most part it is finished. 

 

 

It's funny how I notice things in photos that I didn't notice at the time I took the pictures.  I can see on the right wall that the wallpaper is starting to bubble.  I will have to get that fixed.

 



 

The shelf on the left wall is one that I made from bass wood pieces that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.  I didn't want anything really fancy,  just something to hold the things you would normally find in your garage.  I believe the little crates on the top shelf were purchased on Ebay.   The paper towel rolls were made by me.  The large flower pot on the bottom is one that I picked up at a show and the bags of potting soil were purchased from Hobby Builders Supply. 

 

The overhead door does open and close.   I will have to get a picture of it in the open position and update this post.

 



 

The workbench was a kit that I found on Ebay a very long time ago.  I believe it is by GJ miniatures (?)  I can't find a website or any information on them though.  It was a fun kit to put together.  It even has a little working drawer on the front and it came with a small working turntable to set on top.  I decided to leave it as is instead of painting or staining it because I just like the way it looks this way.

The assortment of tools were found at shows, on Ebay and on Etsy.  The blue bins are from Shapeways.    The rake in the corner is by Sir Thomas Thumb.

 

 

Here are some shots from the back of the house.  You can see the kitchen to the left.  There will be a sunroom above the garage.  That will be my next project.  I have a picture in my mind, but figuring out where to start is the hard part.

 

 

I will post some updates as I add more details to this room, but I hope you like it for now.  :o)

~ Newport Update: The Kitchen ~

So, we are pretty much settled into our new house now, just a few more stray boxes to unpack.  I really need to have a yard sale before the summer is over!  You never realize how much stuff you have until you have to move it.

Anyway, as promised, I have a few blog posts to do on the Newport.  The first one today is the Kitchen.  I also have the garage and master bedroom to show you, but those will have to be separate posts.  I was working on these rooms before we moved.  None of them are 100% finished, but what miniature project ever is?

Some of these photos were taken at night with the dollhouse lights on, some were taken during the day with them off, some with my camera flash and some without.  I tried to show it in all lights because I think it changes the atmosphere of the room.  (maybe its just me?)

I will try to add links to where I purchased the different elements of the room whenever I can.

 

 

 

The cabinets began life as basic Houseworks unassembled kits that I purchased from Hobby Builders Supply.   You can see in the next couple of pictures that they are pretty easy to assemble and once I got the hang of it, I had a little assembly line going, until I got to the dreaded words "sand to fit".  After that it was slow going for a while.  I did eventually get all of the doors and drawers moving smoothly though.  These are basic kits, meaning they are the cabinets only.  You have to add your own countertops, trim, etc.  This was what I was looking for though, I wanted to customize them myself.  I ended up painting them cream and spray painting the knobs black.  The countertop is actually paper that I just printed off of the computer after resizing.  I glued that to the wood base I built then added a couple coats of Triple Thick glaze for a nice finish.

 

 

 

 

When I purchased the Newport, the kitchen already had the gray wallpaper, which I like.  I decided to find some countertops that would coordinate with that and tie it all together. 

 It also had a range hood, which I liked as well, but I wanted something a little bit bigger.   I found a couple of inspiration photos on Pinterest and built this one from matte board and scrap wood.   I love the way it turned out! 

 

 

 

The oven, stovetop, sink and faucet can be found on Hobby Builders Supply website as well.  The red candle on the counter was made using a tutorial I found here and printies here. 

 

 

The island is a kit that I got on NAME day in our local mini club a couple of years ago.  I went with the butcher block top and painted the cabinet red. 

The lights above the island are from Ray Storey.

 

 

The jars on the counter are some that I found at a miniature show.  I filled them with fake flour and sugar, then painted some little cups to use as scoops inside.  The rooster tray hanging on the wall is from Hungarian Miniatures.  The sandwiches are by Amanspeak Miniatures.   The star above the door was purchased at a miniature show and the little chalkboard sign on the right was made by me.

 

The large cabinet in the dining area was an ebay find that I sanded down and refinished.  I still need to do the same to the kitchen table top and I also plan to add cushions to the chairs.  The bar stools were found at Hobby Builders Supply.  ( I really like that site.)

 

 

The tobacco basket hanging on the wall was made by me.  I had a lot of fun with this little project.   I might add a few of these to my Etsy shop soon. 

 



 

 

I'm not sure why I like this last photo.  It's kind of fuzzy, but it shows everything in perspective and keeps it "real".  Look at all those wires, LOL!  I'm still trying to come up with a way to disguise those, but I guess I've got plenty of time before I get to the landscaping and have to deal with that. 

 

Some of the minis in this room were gifts and some I have just forgotten where I picked them up at, but if there is something I missed and you would like to know where it came from, just let me know and I will do my best to find a link for you.
