The Ugly Side Of Man

This blog entry is neither bear or miniature related, but I want to post this here anyway.  This is something I feel very strongly about and I want to make as many people aware as possible.

I know that many of you are animal lovers like me.  I have always loved animals of all kinds!  I have always had pets and I can't imagine living without some sort of furry little friend following me around.  It breaks my heart to hear about the animal abuse that takes place in this world!
I will admit I have always lived a very sheltered life, never really knowing what is going on in the world.  I have always been aware of animal abuse though and extremely concerned about what is being done to stop it, but nothing could have prepared me for what I have learned over the past couple days!
After watching a particularly disturbing TV show yesterday I decided to do some online research to learn more.  This episode of the show was trying to expose the inhumane treatment of horses, specifically the slaughter of them.  Being the sheltered individual that I am, I had no idea that such a thing was going on.  I had no idea that people even eat horses!  I wanted to know what I could do to help stop this disgusting thing from happening, so I went to several websites and eventually found some info on the Humane Society webpage.
It is even worse than I could have ever imagined!  I will tell you that they have a video posted on that page that documents the savage treatment of these animals, but I do not recommend that you watch it!!  I am not embarrassed to tell you that after watching only the first few seconds I had to shut it off and spent the next half hour being sick and crying uncontrollably!   To think that people can do these things to other living creatures makes me feel sick, angry and sad!  There is no reason why these animals should have to suffer such a terrible, barbaric death while the men cheer and laugh as if they are at a some sort of sporting event!   They don't discriminate either, they take the young, healthy horses, children's ponies, foals, racing horses, even stolen horses!   It is the most awful, disgusting and disturbing thing I have ever seen!!

I apologize for my rant, and I thank all of you who have read this!  I hope it has made at least one of you stop and think.  If you would like to help stop this from happening, there is a link at  where you can fill out a form to be sent to your congressman.    I filled it out and e-mailed it, but I am definitely not stopping there!  I am going to look into it some more and see how I can raise more awareness.   I wish I lived somewhere that I could just take them all in and help them!

I hope you all have good day, hug your pets!

  1. I agree with all that you have seid. People think that animals are disposible. If you don't want to take care of them anymore you just leave them to starve or to wander to get hit by cars, killed by other animals, etc. Not to mention dog fighting.People who mistreat animals usually are almost, if not as bad to humans. Luckily there are animal lovers like us. At least some people in this cruel world treat their fur babies like they should be treated. And cherished.

  2. Thank you Jeannette. I will do so, how sickening.

    Victoria ♥

  3. I have a very strong emotional response to animal abuse. It breaks my heart. When I was in Junior high I watched a video on the meat industry and have been a vegetarian ever since. I don't think we take animal abuse seriously enough in this country. I hurt right along with you.

  4. Thank you for leaving your comments! I feel better knowing there are others who feel the same way I do!
For health reasons I am also a vegetarian, but I think I would be anyway. People think I a nutter, LOL!
I have still been looking into this and I actually found a local rescue group who takes in abused horses and also some that were bound for slaughter. They also have a partner group that rescues cats :o) I think you all know how much I love cats! Anyway,
I am working on getting some donations put together for both groups. Luckily my stepdad and his family sell hay, so I have to talk to them about donating some to the rescue group.
Thank you again for visiting my blog!!

  5. Such things make me sick to the stomach just reading about them. And unfortunately there are so many different cases. Your story about the horses, the mindless slaughter of dolphins, the mistreatment of bears (for their bile) in China, and so on, and so on..... I just hope there will be more people like you to take it up for those animals. I do my (very little) bit: I don't buy cage eggs. I know it's not much, but I don't want to have all those poor production chickens on my consience.

  6. Hi,

You have my support!!!I feel sick from those things too! I love animals and they deserve respect!!
    From Holland,

  7. Its is an awful feeling knowing that that kind of stuff is going on and we are limited in what control we have over it. I hope something can be done

Thanks for stopping by! I love it when you comment!
